Hi everyone, after a month of technology detox, which has left me feeling very serene I would like to welcome you to free, online mindfulness classes via zoom. Wednesdays 7.30-8.00 p.m. All welcome, just let me know so I can invite you in. Starts next week, May 13th.

NEW ON LINE MINDFULNESS COURSES
Starting this week, join me via zoom for the 8 week Introduction to Mindfulness course. Free for key workers, donations if you're feeling the squeeze, or £10 if you can. Sessions last for an hour, and you'll be sent notes and meditations to download and practise each week.
During the course we gradually build our skills and knowledge to help deal with life's challenges in a calm and mindful way - bring more well-being to your life.
We will meet on Wednesday evening 6.30 or Thursday morning 10.00, mix and match times to suit your schedule - or suggest other times....

FIVE AUTUMN MINDFULNESS PRACTICES:
1. Try to catch a falling leaf
2. Drink a mug of hot chocolate outside
3. Let go of the old, ready for the new - like a tree shedding its leaves
4. Play with leaves - kick them, throw them, lie in piles of them, laugh
5. Notice the different scents of autumn - wet leaves, fungi, bonfires...

Mindfulness is not about sitting in the 'correct' posture or believing in something other than yourself. This is from someone who had the courage to try when everything else had failed...
“I found it very hard to deal with the constant pain from my broken back and was getting very irritable and depressed. Mindfulness with Jane has taught me how to accept the pain instead of resisting it, this has actually reduced the feelings of pain and suffering. My life now seems to be more balanced, I feel kinder to myself and others. The pain will always be there but it is now in the background, it no longer dominates my life and emotions.”

This week's mindfulness meditation is based on the Buddhist metta loving-kindness meditation, sending love out into the world.

The general idea is to sit quietly and imagine what qualities you would like in your life - perhaps good health, security, contentment... When we think about it, just about everyone on the planet wants the same basic things - we are mostly the same at heart.
-Next spend some time directing these good wishes to yourself - wish yourself well - nourish and nurture you.
-Then imagine these kind thoughts going to someone you care for; silently repeat your positive affirmations or imagine them well...
-Next it's to someone you don't really know, perhaps the person at the checkout, or a neighbour down the street.
-Then it's on to someone you find challenging.
-And finally on to everyone in the whole world, perhaps imagine your loving kindness being spread like fairy-dust around the planet.

SUMMER SOLSTICE

Meditation and the summer solstice: Our lives are governed by the Law of Cycles – night follows day, spring follows winter, and of primary importance in focussed meditation is the cyclic flow of the breath. When we allow ourselves to slow down and become curious, really curious about the breath we become aware of the point of stillness between each breath – try it now – breathe in and then notice the tiny pause before the natural out-breath, and then another subtle pause before the body draws in its next life breath. These tiny pauses are moments of all potentiality – in this moment of pure stillness transformation can occur. And it is the same with the summer and winter solstice; they mark the time of the ending of the in-breath (summer solstice) and the out-breath (winter-solstice) of each annual cycle – some call it the in-breath and out-breath of God.
‘As above, so below’ – we intuitively know the spirit and magic available at the solstice and celebrate the bi-annual points with joy and gratitude to the planet and the sun (the sacred Mother and sacred Father), and by being open to receive the gifts of the forthcoming months. The same is true of the breath meditation – we celebrate each life giving moment in the joy of just being with the breath. Being with the breath is so simple and yet profound in its results. We find a deep peace in being completely self reliant and find also a deeper connection to our spirit and consequently to others through the joy of Life itself.

Why not try a mindful scent meditation, just for a moment...
1 Take something that you like the smell of - fruit, flowers, essential oil, coffee....
2 Hold it under your nose and close your eyes.
3 Breathe in the aroma, savouring the scent.
4 Take 3-4 slow breaths, taking in the scent. Notice how you feel, are you smiling?
5 Recall this experience throughout your day if things get a bit stressy. This helps to override our 'negativity bias'.
